The Western PA Youth Basketball Club, Inc.

The Western Pennsylvania Youth Basketball Club, a non-profit organization, was formed in 1990. Our mission is to assist girls in gaining more recognition and possibly obtain athletic scholarships, to learn the lessons of life through their participation in this great sport as well as build self-esteem by recognizing their accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.

We currently host the Eat'n Park Pennsylvania Girls High School Roundball Classic, The Tri-State Girls Basketball Invitational Showcase, The Coca Cola Western Pennsylvania Girls Basketball Hall of Fame Banquet, and a scholarship program as well as provide numerous colleges with information about the girls accomplishments in Western Pennsylvania. The exposure to colleges creates many opportunities to those girls who could not attend college by any means other than an athletic scholarship.

There have been approximately 700 girls who have participated in the Eat'n Park Pennsylvania Girls High School Roundball Classic, over 2000 girls have participated in our Tri-State Girls Basketball Invitational Showcases, over 1500 girls have received awards as a result of the banquets we have hosted, and several hundred have received scholarships as a result of programs we have offered. Scholarships are awarded for academic performance as well as athletic performance.

Additionally since 1997 we have donated $5.00 of every registration fee for the Tri-State Girls Basketball Invitational Showcase to the Race for the Cure for breast cancer. Since December 2000, the Club has donated $6,700.00 to the Susan Komen Foundation.

The interest in girls basketball has grown considerably over the last ten years. National and local newspapers have been devoting more coverage to the sport. We have also seen an increase in media coverage for High School Girls Basketball games. Since 1995, the Eat'n Park Pennsylvania Girls High School Roundball Classic has been televised live and on tape delay to over a million homes. The response to this event from those who attended, watched on television and sponsored it, has been overwhelming.

Testimonial by Swintayla Cash for The Western PA Youth Basketball Club's Activities

"During my grade school and high school career, I attended many events that were hosted by the Western Pennsylvania Youth Basketball Club, including the Tri-State Girls Invitational Basketball Showcase for four years, the Western Pennsylvania Girls Hall of Fame Banquet as well as I participated in the 1998 Eat'n Park Pennsylvania High School Girls Roundball Classic. The dedication and commitment of the individuals who coordinate the Club's activities inspired me to enhance my overall skills and many times provided me with recognition for my efforts. I am very proud to give this testimonial about the Western Pennsylvania Youth Basketball Club and would encourage participation in the Club's events."
