    Tri-State Invitational Fall Showcase

Each year, the cost of a college education escalates. One method of combating these increasing costs is through scholarships. The Girls Basketball Showcase is designed to "showcase" our most talented players for college athletic scholarships. Based on a camp format, the girls participate in games. Olympic Gold Medalist Suzie McConnell Serio has directed the clinics. At least 80 girls participated in the first Showcase, which was attended by over 20 colleges. Since then, the number of participants for the Showcase has increased to 250 girls. The Showcase is held one weekend (2 days) every September and has been certified by the NCAA.

The site for the Showcase is Robert Morris University's gymnasium, which has six regulation courts available. Each participant plays in a total of 6 games over the course of the weekend, allowing for ample observation and evaluation by the college coaches. An added feature of the Showcase is the Fall Festival, which is punctuated by a senior game.

"I want to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for all that you have done ... for the female athletes. More girls have been able to participate in showcases, camps and clinics. The players, schools and coaches have benefited tremendously."
Phyllis A. Jones - Westinghouse High School Head Coach

The responses from both groups continue to be favorable. Furthermore, several girls have received college scholarships as a result of attending our Showcase.

Additionally we provide a no-charge recruiting Seminar for the benefit of the parents and guardians of the girls attending. The seminar is held from 1:00 to 2:15 each afternoon of the Showcase and is designed to answer parents' questions about the recruiting process, specifically NCAA Rules and regulations, preparing marketing materials for daughters, and the distribution of informative handouts.

DR. HOOP'S TEN PLAYER TIPSSM FOR A SUCCESSFUL SEASON

    1. Concentrate on learning to drive to the basket. The best players go to the hoop.

    2. Keep your head up. The best passers, dribblers and shooters are the best because they can see the court.

    3. You must dribble with both hands. When practicing crossovers, behind the back, spins and between the legs, all of these moves must be made with both hands.

    4. When shooting free throws, follow a set routine. For example, bounce the ball three times before you set to shoot. Focus on the front of the rim. Always follow a routine.

    5. Defense is the key to winning games. Play aggressive, fight defense all the time.

6 You must be in excellent shape to perform. If you are not tired after practicing or playing, you have not pushed yourself enough. Wear knee-pads all of the time! They may not look great, but college coaches like players who wear knee-pads.

    7. The best players almost always practice harder than other players. You will play the way you practice. Intensity is the key.

    8. Attend shooting, positioning and skill camps to improve your game. Learn for the best and listen to your advisors.

    9. Remember, every time before a game and during a game, there will be college scouts in the stands. During pregame warm-ups, be focused and enthusiastic.

    10. Your positive attitude will carry you over the rough spots. A poor game, or unfavorable situation, will not affect you if you have trained yourself to have a positive attitude.
